Who we are
Toro Babies Home is a Non Profit Organisation and is legally registered with the ministry of gender. The legal owners of Toro Babies Home are the two dioceses i.e. the Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal and the Diocese of Rwenzori (Church of Uganda).
Where we work
Toro Babies Home is located in Fort Portal City along Kasese Road in Western Uganda.
Infrastucture
Toro Babies Home is lucky to be having a number of structures in place. We have six houses where children live and each house is under one caretaker (mother). We have an office block which houses the matron’s office, the reception area, the accounts’ clerk office and other vacant offices. Adjusting to the office block, is the house for volunteers and staff with it´s kitchen. At the gate there is gatekeepers house.
Toro Babies Home is meant to accommodate 60 children. The certificate by the ministry of gender has restricted the home to accommodating 50 children.
We have two pieces of land which the church donated. One is Kagote near town, where we have a banana plantation and vegitables garden. Another, Kasiisi, is 6 km away, with a banana plantation, potatoe gardens, cassava, irish potatoes and vegitables. The churches have provided two farms to supply the Babies Home with food, which are managed by three gardeners. In Kagote there‘s a foundation of a four storied building for which we failed to get money to complete.
We have a statonary tractor which was donated by the wife of the president, but it has proved to be expensive to maintain.
On the compound we have a playground for the children.
FINANCE
