On August 25, 2025, we welcomed two new volunteers to Toro Babies Home in Fort Portal: Maren Gehle and Theresa Sieker. Both were sent by the Diocese of Osnabrück and are completing a voluntary social year (FSJ) as part of the German Weltwärts program after graduating from high school. They will be actively supporting us for a whole year.

For many years, Toro Babies Home has maintained a close and trusting partnership with churches in Germany, which send us committed young people every year. These volunteers not only provide valuable help in everyday life, but also contribute financially and ideologically to the work of our home.
Maren and Theresa help in various areas—in particular, caring for our children, feeding them, playing with them, cleaning, accompanying them to doctor’s appointments, and supporting therapies for children with special needs. Under the guidance of the home’s management and our house mothers, they contribute to a loving, safe, and nurturing environment for our charges.

The new volunteers have already settled in well and are enjoying their time at Toro Babies Home – together with the babies, the staff, and the many visitors who support our work.

We are very happy to welcome Maren and Theresa to our big Toro Babies family and wish them an exciting, enriching, and unforgettable year in Uganda!
